Collaboration Project

First Collaboration Case Scenario (Proposed):

  • JAPALA1 group study
  • Use Google talk’s translation feature

÷ Invite the translation bot (e.g. en2ja@bot.talk.google.com
)

÷Translates words right after sending the message
÷However, some words are translated in Katakana (Hiragana is the Japanese alphabet used in class)

Final Collaboration Case Scenario:

As a group, we would have an online discussion on our proposed global issue "Illiteracy". Definitions would be set at the start of the meeting. After the group discussion, group members would identify five (5) important highlights of the brainstorming activity and come up with a blog post for each identified subtopic for thorough discussion. Collaboration wouldn't end there. Group members and other colleagues would be asked to comment or provide ideas on the blog posts for further exchange of thoughts.

Objectives:
  • To be able to use the appropriate collaboration tool based on the case scenario;
  • To be able to provide assessment on the collaboration tools used in the project;
  • To be able to provide the readers an informative material that would show how illiteracy greatly affects our society; and
  • To be able to have an exchange of ideas through commenting on the blog posts.
Collaboration Tools Used:
  • Yahoo! Messenger

- Y!M was used for actual group discussions, brainstorming activities and conferences.

- It was also used during the planning stage.

- Used to invite friends to read the blog entries and provide comments

  • Facebook group

- Facebook group was used for posting reminders and meeting schedules since most group members often check their Facebook account.

  • Blogger

    - Blogger was used to post blog entries about the group’s chosen global issue.

    - This was also used to gather more ideas through its commenting feature.

- Blogger was also used by the group to post updates on the progress of the collaboration project.

- This was also used to keep track of the things that are already accomplished by the group.

- Illiteracy is a global issue. This data would be helpful to monitor how many people from different countries are able to read the blog and already informed/aware of this global issue.

Assessment on the Collaboration Tools Used:

Y!Messenger

¡ Y!M conference is appropriate for group discussions.

¡ However, you cannot send files to all persons in the conference at once.

¡ Photo sharing is not allowed in conferences (e.g. presentation of graphs)

¡ E-mail notification feature can be a distraction during meetings.

Facebook

¡ Very useful for posting reminders since most group members check their Facebook accounts often.

¡ It can sometimes be a source of distraction because of the notifications constantly popping out while working.

Blogger

¡ Blogger was mainly used to write blog entries and gather more ideas from comments.

¡ Blogspot promotes collaboration by enabling each member of the group to state his/her opinion on a certain post. Furthermore, other people can also comment on a certain blog post which makes the information gathering more effective and diverse

¡ Could have been better if you can see new posts/comment notifications made by readers on the dashboard

¡ Using the main account, a certain group member can enable others to also contribute to the blog by sending an e-mail request. This promotes distinction and authenticity among members (especially when creating a blog post/posting a comment).
